Flat batteries in Bexley

Where cars go flat here, and how we reach them.

Bexley's callouts run along the A2 and A20, the two fast roads through the borough where cars break down on the move, and around the Broadway shopping centre car park in Bexleyheath, an APCOA multi-storey with around 1,000 spaces and a 2.0 metre entrance limit that closes in the early evening. The council's Albion Road multi-storey next door has 322 spaces, a 2.1 metre limit and no lift, and like every Bexley council car park it is open 24 hours a day. Sidcup, Welling and Blackfen are driveway suburbs with second cars that sit between short trips; Sidcup station's APCOA car park has 260 open-air spaces and Bexleyheath station's council car park 193, and Queen Mary's Hospital on Frognal Avenue has 350 pay-and-display spaces entered off the A222 Chislehurst Road. Erith and Slade Green have industrial estates with early-morning van callouts, and Thamesmead's estate car parks hold cars that have not moved in weeks.

Before you call: If you have stopped on the A2 or the A20 Sidcup Bypass, get behind the barrier and give us the direction and the last junction. The technician cannot cross the carriageway to reach you. In the Broadway car park, call before it closes at 6pm on weekdays, 6.30pm on Saturday or 4.30pm on Sunday.

Bexley questions

Before you call.

Do you cover Erith, Belvedere and Crayford industrial estates?

Yes, cars and vans, at any hour, with vans from £65 and nothing added for an early start. The Erith and Crayford estates are laid out along the A206 Thames Road and the streets off it, and one postcode often covers a whole run of yards, so give us the company name and the unit number, not the postcode, or the technician will be reading signage in the dark at six in the morning. If the yard gates are still locked or there is a security desk, say so when you call so someone is expecting the technician. Erith, Belvedere and Crayford stations all sit in the council's controlled zones, with short two-hour restrictions to keep commuters out, so a van left on-street near a station overnight is usually fine but say if it is in a bay.

Can you reach Sidcup and Blackfen quickly?

Usually 30 to 60 minutes. DA14 and DA15 are covered on both the Bexley and the Greenwich sides, and the borough boundary makes no difference to the price or the response. Sidcup and Blackfen sit off the A20 Sidcup Bypass, which is the fast route in, with the A2 Rochester Way giving an alternative when it is busy. The residential streets either side are tightly parked, so the technician parks legally nearby and carries the pack to your car. Give us the street and the nearest cross street rather than only the postcode.

Can you get into the Broadway and Albion Road car parks in Bexleyheath?

Yes, but their hours are very different, so tell us which one. The Broadway Shopping Centre multi-storey on Albion Road, DA6 7JJ, is run by APCOA with around 1,000 spaces and a 2.00 metre entrance height; it opens 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, until 6.30pm on Saturday and 7.30am to 4.30pm on Sunday, so a car that will not start near closing needs us quickly. The council's Albion Road multi-storey, DA6 7LB, has 322 spaces, a 2.1 metre limit, no lift and disabled bays on level 4, and like all Bexley council car parks it is open 24 hours, seven days a week. Our technicians attend in a car, so the height limits do not matter. Give us the level and the nearest stairwell and agree the price before you go back down.

Do you cover Sidcup station, Queen Mary's Hospital and the station permit zones?

Yes. Sidcup station's car park on Jubilee Way, DA15 7AW, is an open-air APCOA site with 260 spaces and ANPR cameras, open to drive in and out 24 hours, and Bexleyheath station's council car park on Avenue Road, DA7 4EQ, has 193 spaces, EV charging and CCTV, also open around the clock; Albany Park's has 60. Queen Mary's Hospital on Frognal Avenue, DA14 6LT, has 350 pay-and-display spaces including blue-badge bays, with the main entrance and car park reached off the A222 Chislehurst Road. The council runs controlled parking zones around Abbey Wood, Bexleyheath, Bexley, Sidcup, Welling, New Eltham, Albany Park, Crayford, Erith and Falconwood stations, mostly short two-hour restrictions to deter commuters, so if your car is on a street near a station rather than in the car park, tell us the street and whether it is in a bay.

How quickly can you reach me in London?

Across the 33 boroughs we arrive within 30 to 60 minutes of your call on average, and faster inside the North and South Circular. We give you a realistic time when you book rather than an optimistic one, and we tell you straight away if it will be longer. The hour makes no difference to the cover: we run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year including Christmas Day and bank holidays, so a three in the morning callout is handled exactly like a midday one. Traffic is the main variable, particularly the A406 North Circular, the A205 South Circular and the river crossings. If you are somewhere with restricted access, such as an airport car park, a gated development or an underground residents' bay, say so when you call so we reach you first time.

How much does a jump start cost?

A car jump start starts at £49, a van at £65, and a hybrid or EV 12V boost at £59. The price is confirmed before we set off and it does not change at night, at weekends, on bank holidays or inside the ULEZ and congestion charge zones. There is no call-out fee stacked on top and no mileage charge across the 33 boroughs. A battery health test starts at £25 on its own and is free with any jump start, and a new battery is from £95 fitted. You pay when the job is done, by card, cash, Apple Pay or Google Pay. If we cannot start the car, we tell you why and you pay the callout only.

Do I need a membership?

No. Jump Start London is pay-as-you-go, so there is no membership, no annual fee, no joining cost and no sign-up before you can call. That is the main difference between us and a breakdown club: you are not paying a subscription all year for something you may use once. Call when you need us, get the price confirmed before we set off, and pay only for that job by card, cash, Apple Pay or Google Pay when it is finished. There is no contract afterwards and nothing to cancel. If you already belong to a breakdown club you are still free to call us when their wait is longer than ours.

Can you get to a car in an underground or barrier car park?

Yes. Most London jump starts happen in car parks rather than on driveways, and a great many are underground residents' bays where nothing can get alongside you. Our technicians carry a compact lithium jump pack to the car on foot, so there is no need to bring a second vehicle in and no need for the bay next to you to be free. That is the practical reason a pack beats jump leads down there. Two things help before you go below ground. Agree the price and the time while you still have signal, and tell the concierge or car park office a technician is coming so they can point them to your level. Height barriers are not an obstacle.
