Flat batteries in Harrow
Where cars go flat here, and how we reach them.
Harrow is driveway and garage territory, and the cars that go flat here are the ones that sit for a week between short trips in Pinner, Stanmore and Hatch End. Harrow on the Hill's steep, narrow streets are a regular winter callout, and the town centre car parks catch shoppers: St George's has 643 spaces entered from Headstone Road, the council's Queens House multi-storey has 450 and Greenhill Way 209, and Peel House in Wealdstone holds 257. Northwick Park Hospital's 727-space multi-storey, run by APCOA with ANPR cameras, is the other big source of cars left all day with something switched on. The TfL station car parks at Stanmore, Canons Park, Harrow & Wealdstone, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Hatch End, Rayners Lane and South Harrow are full of commuter cars from early morning, and Harrow-on-the-Hill has both a multi-storey and a surface car park.

Harrow questions
Before you call.
Do you cover Pinner and Hatch End?
Yes. HA5 is covered, usually within 30 to 60 minutes, and there is no surcharge for the borough edge or for the distance. Pinner and Hatch End sit off the A404 Pinner Road and A410 Uxbridge Road, which keeps them quicker to reach than the map suggests. The older streets around Pinner village are narrow and often fully parked, so the technician parks at the nearest legal spot and walks the pack to your car rather than needing the bay beside you. Give us the street and the nearest junction. Cover runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Can you reach Stanmore station car park?
Yes. The Stanmore, Canons Park and Harrow-on-the-Hill station car parks are all covered, 24 hours a day and with no evening surcharge. Station car parks are worth a little extra detail because they are often multi-level with separate commuter and short-stay sections sharing a single postcode, so tell us the level and the section. If your car has sat there all day with a light left on, the battery health test that comes with every jump start is the useful part, since it tells you whether it will start again tomorrow morning or strand you a second time.
Can you come to the Northwick Park Hospital multi-storey?
Yes. Northwick Park's multi-storey car park opened in October 2021 with 727 spaces, ANPR cameras and 30 electric vehicle charging points, and it is run by APCOA on behalf of the hospital. Because it is camera-controlled there is no ticket or barrier for the technician to deal with; they drive in as a visitor, or walk in with the jump pack if the queue at the entrance is long. Tell us the level, the nearest stairwell and, if you are near one, the charging point number, because the floors look alike. If the car is an electric or hybrid model that has been sitting while you were on the ward, say so: it is the 12V battery that goes flat, and it is jumped like any other, but the connection points are different.
Which Harrow town centre car parks do you attend?
All of them. St George's shopping centre car park has 643 spaces plus 26 blue-badge bays, is entered from Headstone Road at HA1 1PD and has its pay machines on the third and fourth floors. The council's Queens House multi-storey has 450 spaces and a height limit of about six and a half feet, open 7am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 7pm on Sunday, and Greenhill Way has 209 spaces; in Wealdstone, Peel House holds 257 and the Harrow Leisure Centre car park 427. Our technicians attend in a car, so the height limits are no obstacle. Give us the car park name and the level, and if you are calling near closing time say so, because we need the car started before the gates shut.
How quickly can you reach me in London?
Across the 33 boroughs we arrive within 30 to 60 minutes of your call on average, and faster inside the North and South Circular. We give you a realistic time when you book rather than an optimistic one, and we tell you straight away if it will be longer. The hour makes no difference to the cover: we run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year including Christmas Day and bank holidays, so a three in the morning callout is handled exactly like a midday one. Traffic is the main variable, particularly the A406 North Circular, the A205 South Circular and the river crossings. If you are somewhere with restricted access, such as an airport car park, a gated development or an underground residents' bay, say so when you call so we reach you first time.
How much does a jump start cost?
A car jump start starts at £49, a van at £65, and a hybrid or EV 12V boost at £59. The price is confirmed before we set off and it does not change at night, at weekends, on bank holidays or inside the ULEZ and congestion charge zones. There is no call-out fee stacked on top and no mileage charge across the 33 boroughs. A battery health test starts at £25 on its own and is free with any jump start, and a new battery is from £95 fitted. You pay when the job is done, by card, cash, Apple Pay or Google Pay. If we cannot start the car, we tell you why and you pay the callout only.
Do I need a membership?
No. Jump Start London is pay-as-you-go, so there is no membership, no annual fee, no joining cost and no sign-up before you can call. That is the main difference between us and a breakdown club: you are not paying a subscription all year for something you may use once. Call when you need us, get the price confirmed before we set off, and pay only for that job by card, cash, Apple Pay or Google Pay when it is finished. There is no contract afterwards and nothing to cancel. If you already belong to a breakdown club you are still free to call us when their wait is longer than ours.
Can you get to a car in an underground or barrier car park?
Yes. Most London jump starts happen in car parks rather than on driveways, and a great many are underground residents' bays where nothing can get alongside you. Our technicians carry a compact lithium jump pack to the car on foot, so there is no need to bring a second vehicle in and no need for the bay next to you to be free. That is the practical reason a pack beats jump leads down there. Two things help before you go below ground. Agree the price and the time while you still have signal, and tell the concierge or car park office a technician is coming so they can point them to your level. Height barriers are not an obstacle.
