Flat batteries in Newham
Where cars go flat here, and how we reach them.
Newham has two worlds: the terraces of East Ham, Forest Gate and Plaistow where cars sit in permit bays all week, and the new-build towers of Stratford, Canning Town and the Royal Docks with underground car parks where a car can be forgotten for a month. Westfield Stratford City has more than 4,500 spaces across car parks A, B and C, all entered from Round House Lane with a 2.1 metre height limit and open for entry and exit 24 hours, and it is our busiest single location in east London; Stratford station itself has no car park. Newham Hospital on Glen Road in Plaistow has a small pay-on-exit visitor car park. The A13 through Beckton, the North Circular at Barking and the approaches to the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are where the roadside callouts happen, and London City Airport's car parks add returning travellers.

Newham questions
Before you call.
Can you reach London City Airport car parks?
Yes. The airport's short-stay and long-stay car parks and the Royal Docks developments are covered 24 hours a day. Have the car park name and the bay ready when you call, because airport car parks are large and repetitive and those details are the difference between the technician reaching you in minutes and walking a deck. If you have a flight to catch, say so at the start of the call and we will tell you honestly whether the timing works. The A1020 Royal Docks Road and A13 Newham Way are our routes in, and there is no surcharge for the hour.
Do you cover West Ham match days?
Yes. The streets around the London Stadium and Stratford close for a few hours before and after a game, so tell us where you are and we route the technician round them to whichever side is still open. On a match day the street name is worth more than the postcode, since coming in from the wrong direction can add twenty minutes. Stratford also has several large car parks sharing an area, so give us the car park name and level if you are in one. Cover runs 24 hours a day, so a car that fails after an evening fixture is no different.
Can you reach me on a London Stadium event day in Stratford?
Yes. On London Stadium event days, between 8am and 9pm, you need a permit or a paid shared-use bay to park anywhere in the Stratford Central, Stratford North West, Stratford South West, Stratford South East and West Ham residential parking zones, and the next event date is posted on the signs at each zone entrance. That matters if your car is parked on one of those streets and you are calling us after a match: tell us the street and house number, whether the car is in a permit bay, and roughly when the event ends, because the crowds leaving on foot slow everything around the stadium for an hour. Our technician does not need to park for long, since the jump pack comes to the car on foot if the street is choked.
Do you cover the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnel approaches in Newham?
Yes, on the Newham side of both. The Silvertown Tunnel links Silvertown to the Greenwich Peninsula, and both it and the Blackwall Tunnel are charged crossings: free only between 10pm and 6am, with peak rates from 6am to 10am northbound and 4pm to 7pm southbound on weekdays. If your car dies on the approach, get out on the passenger side, get behind the barrier and call 999 if you are in a live lane, then call us with the direction you were heading and the last slip road or junction you passed; the postcode is no use on the approach roads. If the car has stalled in the queue for the tunnel rather than on the open road, say so, because the technician approaches differently.
How quickly can you reach me in London?
Across the 33 boroughs we arrive within 30 to 60 minutes of your call on average, and faster inside the North and South Circular. We give you a realistic time when you book rather than an optimistic one, and we tell you straight away if it will be longer. The hour makes no difference to the cover: we run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year including Christmas Day and bank holidays, so a three in the morning callout is handled exactly like a midday one. Traffic is the main variable, particularly the A406 North Circular, the A205 South Circular and the river crossings. If you are somewhere with restricted access, such as an airport car park, a gated development or an underground residents' bay, say so when you call so we reach you first time.
How much does a jump start cost?
A car jump start starts at £49, a van at £65, and a hybrid or EV 12V boost at £59. The price is confirmed before we set off and it does not change at night, at weekends, on bank holidays or inside the ULEZ and congestion charge zones. There is no call-out fee stacked on top and no mileage charge across the 33 boroughs. A battery health test starts at £25 on its own and is free with any jump start, and a new battery is from £95 fitted. You pay when the job is done, by card, cash, Apple Pay or Google Pay. If we cannot start the car, we tell you why and you pay the callout only.
Do I need a membership?
No. Jump Start London is pay-as-you-go, so there is no membership, no annual fee, no joining cost and no sign-up before you can call. That is the main difference between us and a breakdown club: you are not paying a subscription all year for something you may use once. Call when you need us, get the price confirmed before we set off, and pay only for that job by card, cash, Apple Pay or Google Pay when it is finished. There is no contract afterwards and nothing to cancel. If you already belong to a breakdown club you are still free to call us when their wait is longer than ours.
Can you get to a car in an underground or barrier car park?
Yes. Most London jump starts happen in car parks rather than on driveways, and a great many are underground residents' bays where nothing can get alongside you. Our technicians carry a compact lithium jump pack to the car on foot, so there is no need to bring a second vehicle in and no need for the bay next to you to be free. That is the practical reason a pack beats jump leads down there. Two things help before you go below ground. Agree the price and the time while you still have signal, and tell the concierge or car park office a technician is coming so they can point them to your level. Height barriers are not an obstacle.
